Interactive ESQ-R Assessment
The Executive Skills Questionnaire-Revised (ESQ-R), based on the work of Dawson & Guare, measures 12 executive function skills across Thinking and Doing domains. Complete the assessment to generate your personalized Executive Skills Profile.
Before You Begin
This self-assessment contains 36 items (3 per skill). Rate each statement honestly based on how you typically function — not your best or worst day. There are no right or wrong answers. This tool is for self-awareness and goal-setting, not clinical diagnosis.
How Scoring Works
Each item is rated 1–7, where 1 = Strongly Disagree (this does NOT describe me) and 7 = Strongly Agree (this describes me very well). Higher scores indicate greater strength in that skill. Your top 3 and bottom 3 skills will be highlighted with tailored strategy recommendations.

Your Top 3 Growth Areas
These skills scored lowest. Below each is a tailored strategy recommendation based on the Dawson & Guare intervention model.
Understanding "Goodness of Fit"
Remember: executive function challenges are not character flaws. Problems arise when the demands of your environment exceed your executive skill capacity. A low score in one area doesn't mean failure — it means that specific skill may need more external scaffolding (environmental modifications, tools, routines) while you develop independent capacity. This is the core principle of Dawson & Guare's coaching model.
Thinking Domain Average
Working Memory, Planning, Organization, Time Management, Metacognition
Doing Domain Average
Response Inhibition, Emotional Control, Sustained Attention, Task Initiation, Goal-Directed Persistence, Flexibility, Stress Tolerance
What's Next?
This self-assessment is a starting point for metacognitive awareness. For a comprehensive coaching engagement, a certified EF coach would also conduct a structured intake interview, a "Point of Performance" audit, and potentially administer complementary instruments like the BRIEF-2.
